Mantua 399-025 "President Adams" B&O Class P7 4-6-2 Pacific Locomotive #5301 w/Smoke

The President Adams, road number 5301, was the second of twenty P7 Pacifics ordered for the President Series by the Baltimore & Ohio from Baldwin Locomotive Works in Eddystone, PA. This was the last mass purchase of steam passenger power on the B&O. The P7's were based in great part on the Pennsy K-4 with one notable exception. The Presidents were equipped with automatic stokers which made the fireman's job a relaxed one.

The President Adams weighed in at 326,000 lbs. with a tractive effort of 50,000 lbs. turning 80" spoked drivers. The olive green and gold leaf livery had it's origins in the British Isles.

The President Adams saw service pulling the Cincinnatian along with Presidents Jefferson, Madison and Monroe. They were later repainted in the Royal Blue B&O colors. The President Adams was streamlined twice and was a stylish locomotive born when the Charleston was the rage. It served with distinction throughout the depression years and was retired in 1957 when it wore yet another coat, all black.
