Camelbacks, also known as Mother Hubbards were first built by the Philadelphia and Reading’s shops in 1877. They were a common sight in the anthracite coal regions of the US in the late 19th and early 20th Century and nowhere were Camelbacks more prominent than with the Central of New Jersey. Until eventually replaced by Pacifics, the 120 CNJ 4-6-0 Camelbacks were the road's primary freight AND passenger locomotive. Three of the roads' 4-4-0 Camelbacks were the heaviest 4-4-0s ever built. Of course, The CNJ didn't have a single 2-8-2 Camelback on their roster but Mantua sure did. As was common back in the day, selling locomotives often took precedence over absolute accuracy.In this case you should be glad that it did.
