AHM5088E Deluxe CB&Q Light Pacific 4-6-2 Locomotive HO Scale

In the 1960s and 1970s AHM/Rivarossi offered two series of 4-6-2 Light Pacifics. The entry level 5088 Series is (sort of) represented here by our MRRHQ Collectible HO Scale AHM5088E CB&Q Light Pacific 4-6-2 Locomotive. Basically, the differences between the 5088 Series and the Deluxe 5140 Series were in level of detail. Though the boiler and frame moldings were identical, the 5088 Series included two simple non-stanchion boiler handrails per side, no coupler release bars and no cab hand rails. The 5140 Series included prototypical handrails with stanchions, cab hand rails AND coupler release bars. The 5088 Series valve gear was also greatly simplified when compared to AHM5140 Series Wahlshaerts valve gear. Lastly, though both series included a tender back up light housing, it was non-functional in the 5088 Series.

However, we're not really partial to empty light housings or missing details so we decided to level the playing field a wee bit. Though we couldn't upgrade the valve gear we DID paint the molded bell assembly metallic brass, add a front coupler release bar, add prototypical boiler and cab hand rails and installed a working directional bulb in the tender back up light housing all of which make this a unique, and deluxe, 5088 Series Pacific indeed.
