AHM5082-B Indiana Harbor Belt Class U-4A 0-8-0 Switcher #102 Upgraded to 5083 w/RARE IHB Caboose Option HO Scale
In 1927 the Alco Brooks Works built three monster 0-8-0 switchers for the New York Central owned Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad. The engines were an advanced three-cylinder design with limited cut-off, featured a highly unique booster drive on the Tender front truck and were the most powerful and technically advanced 0-8-0 switchers ever built. The engines were designated Class U-4A and numbered 100-102.
Between 1960 and 1997 there were (14) separate releases of this iconic IHB Switcher by Rivarossi and AHM. Of these 14 releases only the AHM5083, and, now, this upgraded 5082, and (3) Rivarossi' included the iconic, and correct, Tender Front Booster Truck. Though NO other roads built switchers this large or powerful, there were also (11) non-prototypical AHM/Rivarossi releases under 5 other road names. Several of these releases ALSO included the Tender Front Booster truck which is definitely incorrect. Of course, one has to recover one's tooling cost somehow............
