The MKII Super Detailed 2-8-0 Consolidations are widely recognized by both operators and collectors as the rarest, most unique and most desirable RTR Mantua 2-8-0s. Surely, finding something even MORE unique and desirable must be out of the question. Not so fast. For your viewing pleasure we present the rarest of the rare and most unique of all, a FACTORY SEALED Mantua 319 MKII Super Detailed 2-8-0 Consolidation Locomotive Kit.
Is this the Holy Grail of Mantua Locomotive Kits? You be the judge.
In 1980 Mantua introduced, and OFFERED FOR ONE YEAR ONLY, their 2-8-0 Consolidation, 2-8-2 Mikado and 4-6-2 Pacific each in four different road names and each with never-been-seen-before extra factory applied "lost cast" super detailed brass components. This high level of detail would only be offered once more by Mantua with their "Collectibles" Series in 1986. Each of these 12 locos also featured long haul Vandy Tenders which, for the Consolidation, ALSO would never be seen again thus making the MKII Super Detailed 2-8-0 Consolidation Locomotive, and it's companion kit, the rarest of all.
